A Conceptual Paper: Factors Causing Delays in Roads Construction in Sultanate of Oman
Purpose: The objective of this study is to investigate and identify the causes of delays and their effects on the construction of the road projects in the Sultanate of Oman.
Background: The construction industry is one of the fundamental areas and basis of the improvement of an economy. The construction is the instruments through which, a public accomplishes its objectives of urban and provincial improvement. However, construction delays are a common phenomenon in civil engineering projects including road construction projects. Therefore, it is essential to study and analyses causes of road construction delays, and to solve them in order to achieve the implementation of the road project within the planned/ set targeted time. several causes, to contributed to the causes of constructions delay. A few of these causes are essential and can be seen as main causes of delay comparing with other causes
Design/Methodology/Approach: This study is carried out based on literature review and questioners sampling survey. Data will be collected by using some survey questionnaires, which will be distributed to consultants and contractors, as well as the project owner (client). The data will be analyzed by using qualitative method of the collected samples
Results/Findings: Initially from the literature review it has been found that 50% of the project’s delays are due to lack of communication between the main project’s parties (client, contractor & consultants). Also, improper project planning. un experienced site engineers and site supervisors and external causes such as the weather (temperature & flooding rain).
Conclusion and Implications: The study will propose policy recommendations to detect the actual causes of the project delay and guide lines for efficient solutions of construction management which, can leads to finish the projects within the planned time at the lowest possible cost.
